For the first time since the Xbox 360 debuted, a “next-gen” console’s version of Madden is finally up to snuff with the series’ past greatness from its PlayStation 2 heyday. But it’s not perfect.

Maybe you missed the best Madden in the XBOX heyday. 2006.

This game is not up to snuff at all.

This is the best Madden on Next Gen. That's not saying much after 4 years of programming on the system.

If a person quits online you have to finish the game against the Computer. Where the mercy rule.
Madden 05 had this on xbox . Come on.

In practice you no longer have the option to have the opposite team run Random plays. EA giveth and taketh away.

If your going to allow QB's to run and throw 30 yds down the field across there body then bring back the damn passing cone.

I now know why so many people hated it.
It made passing more realistic than it ever was. It's back to being arcade like with crossing routes dominating online play.

It's no where the level of play and balance that Madden 06 on XBOX offered.

How this version is still missing and now removing items that was in Madden 06 is just frustrating.

I enjoy this year's Madden. It's a very fun/challenging game for me; however, the issue with online disconnects is a problem that needs to be addressed quickly.

The online communities, that anticipate the arrival of such games, and already have a good idea of what to expect, these people have been very patient with this next-generation's list of sports gaming titles. From performance issues, to online functionality, these games may often look pretty, but underneath, they are broken and unworthy of the cost charged for purchase.

Two games I have enjoyed this year, MLB 2K8 and Madden 09, both suffer from issues that leave me frustrated. Online is the majority of my gaming time, and in both cases, the games are broken.

I don't know how the queation was worded to paremts, but I think that the answers having Grand Theft Auto at the top of the list was because they felt like that was much more likely to happen. I don't have kids of my own, but being a teacher I could see boys passing on alcohol, maybe even porn (most likely not though), but if a chance to play GTA came up I don't think they would identify that as nearly as bad or as negative of a thing to be doing, so it would register as ok. Plus I would think that parents at the other house would try to stop the other things in 99% of cases if they knew what was going on, but so many would just look the other way and let them play GTA. That's my 2 cents on that stat anyway.

That last item is both worrying and extremely amusing at the same time. I love the idea of the parent who is more concerned about their child playing a violent video game, hearing some profane language or watching pornography. I can understand their objections of course, everyone has their own tastes and criteria as to what's acceptable but surely teenagers having unprotected sex themselves, drinking beer or being the victim of bullying are more pressing issues that parents should be concerned about.

Wouldn't the consle sales have a lot to do with the cost of the console as well? If I sold 20 PS3s at $500 per and 20 WIIs at $250 per, i'd be looking at $10,000 versus $5000. The sales numbers are a bit skewed because of this, are they not? There is no doubt, however, that the PS3 is gaining ground. The Blue Ray win seemed to put the money in the bank for them, so to speak.

"Sounds like fun, Shawn. You need to get in the sun more though, Peter makes you look so pale."

There's no "look so pale" about it. Irish and Czech descent means that I'm either white as a sheet or red as a lobster. Ain't no in between, unfortunately.

Feel free to use the picture to scare the kids at Halloween if you'd like. ;)

I'm really enjoying Madden so far, for the first time in a while I think it may be my football game of choice (usually it's been NCAA).

"Home or a World Cup Final and you call yourself a journalist. Did you get to play the Wii version?"

***

I don't get it - the Rose Bowl hosted the 1994 World Cup men's final (and the '99 women's) and I mentioned that in the second sentence. ;)

I didn't get a chance to play the Wii version because there weren't very many Wiis there, actually. The setup included 95% Xbox 360's, it seemed - no surprise, since Microsoft was the primary sponsor of the event.

I'll be honest, though - what I saw on the Wii wouldn't have pulled me away from the 360 version anyway...
